Virgin America and Richard Branson touched down in Philadelphia celebrate Virgin’s newest flight route.
Philadelphia Mayor Michael A. Nutter, actors Seth Green and Terrence Howard, plus music stars Wiz Khalifa, The Roots and Amber Rose were all in attendance to celebrate the new Virgin America flights.
Virgin America is the first U.S. airline to launch new service at PHL in eight years, with nonstop flights from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) now flying and flights from San Francisco International Airport (SFO) as of April 10th.
The “tailgate on the tarmac” celebration, with Philadelphia Mayor Michael A. Nutter and Virgin Group Founder Richard Branson, saw Philly’s own DJ Jazzy Jeff entertaining the guests. Richard Branson got involved in the fun by taking part in a Livestream interview and playing matchmaker via Twitter.
“Philadelphia is a vibrant, world class city that deserves more airline competition,” said Virgin America President and Chief Executive Officer David Cush. “In addition to bringing low fare competition to routes previously only served nonstop by legacy carriers, we believe our unique service will be a welcome change for Philadelphians tired of the typical domestic airline cattle car.”
“This is a great day for Philadelphia and our Airport,” said Mayor Michael A. Nutter. “We are thrilled that travelers in our region now have convenient access to Virgin America’s award-winning service. This new service to the West Coast will stimulate our regional economy and give travelers more choices. It’s a pleasure to welcome Virgin America to our Airport family, and I congratulate this fine airline for recognizing the value of doing business with our great city.”
In honour of its newest route, Virgin America this week launches a “Liberating” network-wide fare sale. Go to Virgin America to book tickets, see more photos from the Philadelphia launch and find out more.
